Cigarette smoking is a popular trend in the world where this «culture» is supported by the presence of shops and wide availability of such products.

While people of legal age can decide for themselves whether they need to smoke or not, there is the problem of minors getting addicted to smoking and doing it secretly from their parents. The reason for that lies in the fact that the image of a person smoking a cigarette is somewhat glamorized by advertising and demonstrating images of strong handsome men who promote the idea of smoking making you more successful.

According to the statistics in the year 2007 19.8% of all adults in the United States (which is about 1 out of 5 people) were smokers.

The numbers get even more interesting when different age groups are looked at, with 22.8% of those 25 to 44 years old smoking cigarettes, compared to 8.3% of people older than 65. Cigarettes are sold in packs containing 20 items. The most popular types of cigarettes include full flavor (filtered high flavored cigarettes high in tar and nicotine), lights (an alternative for smokers willing to have lower potency and easier taste), ultra (the lowest tar and nicotine levels), mild (milder taste along with a lower level of nicotine and tar) and non-filter cigarettes (without the filter; these are believed to have the most damaging effect on the health)
